Sustainable Food Cornwall had a busy day in Westminster strengthening connections with Cornwall’s new Labour MPs about the importance of everyone having equal access to healthy, affordable and planet-friendly food.
We agreed to work closely together to take action and inspire change to make local food supply chains more resilient, boost the local economy, protect the environment and minimise food waste.
Huge thanks to Labour MPs Noah Law (St Austell & Newquay), Jayne Kirkham (Truro and Falmouth), Perran Moon (Camborne, Redruth and Hayle) who met with Sustainable Food Cornwall director Charlotte Barry at the Sustainable Food Places day of action in London. Anna Gelderd (South-East Cornwall) arrived later.
Sustainable Food Cornwall is also working to form close links with Lib Dem MPs Ben Maguire (North Cornwall) and Andrew George (St Ives).
The day of action created a valuable opportunity to hear what colleagues from more than 100 similar food partnerships all over the UK are achieving, including our friends at Food Plymouth, Devon Food Partnership and TorbayFoodPartnership.
We called on the new Labour Government to recognise the work of the Sustainable Food Places network in improving people’s access to food, climate and nature, as well as the economy and community wellbeing, and demanded a food partnership in every area alongside a Good Food Bill in every nation.
